VR Zombie Fight

VR zombie combat and multi-boss survival

Description

VR Zombie Fight is a large-scale combat level I worked on while serving at iPangram, developed as part of Project X. The experience places the player in a hostile sci-fi environment where they must survive waves of AI-driven zombies using an assault rifle, pistol, and melee weapons such as a sword and axe. Zombies exhibit varied behaviors, including roaming, individual attacks, wave-based assaults, and rage states. The level progresses through exploration, combat, bomb activation, and boss encounters, eventually leading to multiple simultaneous boss fights across a large environment. I also worked extensively on lighting, mesh baking, and performance optimization to maintain a playable experience on standalone VR hardware despite the large maps and numerous dynamic elements.

Highlights

  1. VR Zombie Combat

Built a combat-heavy VR experience centered around surviving hostile zombie encounters.

  2. Multiple Weapon Systems

Implemented and integrated assault rifle, pistol, sword, and axe combat for different encounter scenarios.

  3. Advanced Zombie AI

Implemented varied behaviors including roaming, individual encounters, wave attacks, and rage states.

  4. Wave-Based Encounters

Designed zombie spawning and combat encounters that progressively increase the pressure on the player.

  5. Boss Encounter

Developed a large, fast-moving guard-type zombie as a major boss encounter with a key-reward progression mechanic.

  6. Interactive Bomb Mechanic

Implemented grabbing and activating a bomb as part of the level's progression toward the boss encounter.

  7. Key-Based Progression

Players obtain a key after defeating the boss and use it with a sci-fi machine to unlock subsequent areas.

  8. Large-Scale VR Environment

Worked with extensive maps containing numerous enemies and interactive elements while maintaining standalone VR performance.

  9. Lighting & Mesh Optimization

Applied mesh baking, light baking, and other optimization techniques to improve performance and visual quality.

  10. XR Development Experience

Strengthened my understanding of VR movement, interaction, combat systems, AI, standalone-device optimization, and large-scale level development.
