Description

ShapeRift is a simple but progressively challenging client project developed at Carina Soft Labs while I was working there as a Unity Developer Intern. The game challenges players to match incoming shape cutouts with the correct shapes presented as options before a short timer expires. Correct selections allow the player to pass through the obstacle, while incorrect choices result in a collision and game over. As the run progresses, the speed increases and multiple cutouts can appear simultaneously, requiring players to select multiple matching shapes. The game also features randomized obstacles, score tracking, best-score records, selection indicators, and progressively faster gameplay.

Highlights

  1. Shape Matching System

Developed the core mechanic where players select matching shapes to pass through randomly generated cutouts.

  2. Progressive Difficulty

Implemented increasing gameplay speed and shorter decision windows to make later stages significantly more challenging.

  3. Multi-Shape Challenges

Added sections where multiple cutouts appear simultaneously, requiring players to select multiple correct shapes from the available options.

  4. Timed Selection System

Implemented a countdown and visual distance indicator that communicates the remaining time and locks the player's selection before the obstacle arrives.

  5. Infinite Gameplay

Built a continuously progressing gameplay loop with randomized shape configurations and increasing difficulty.

  6. Score System

Implemented current-score and best-score tracking with end-of-run feedback to encourage players to improve their performance.
