Description
Catch America is a client-developed fishing game MVP created for a U.S.-based client to showcase the concept to potential investors. The core gameplay revolves around casting, hooking, fighting, and catching fish across five distinct American locations. Players earn XP from catches to level up and unlock new fishing rods, attachments, gear, and locations, creating a progression loop of cast, fight, level up, and explore. I handled the game's programming, gameplay systems, UI implementation, sound design, and optimization. The project also features gyroscope-based fishing controls, strategic bait mechanics, stylized American map navigation, fish-specific behaviors, and detailed catch presentations with rarity and weight information.

Highlights
Fishing Combat System
Developed casting, hooking, reeling, and fish-fighting mechanics centered around tension management, fish distance, stamina, and timing.
Progression System
Implemented XP-based progression that unlocks new rods, attachments, gear, and fishing locations as players level up.
Strategic Fishing Mechanics
Added different fishing strategies and bait behaviors, requiring players to adapt their approach to different fish species.
Gyroscope Controls
Implemented mobile gyroscope controls that allow players to physically move their device to simulate fishing-rod movement.
American Location Map
Designed a stylized map of America with real-world fishing locations, each providing different difficulty levels, environments, and available fish species.
Optimization Strategy
Used distant environmental imagery instead of fully modeled 3D environments where appropriate, helping maintain visual quality while reducing runtime complexity.
